Horse Racing - Yea or neigh?

Greetings, Banders!

As most of you know, I put quite a bit of time and resources into hosting events for the Landroval server. Although they are open to the public, I primarily organize these for the benefit of the LMB. Some of the events I've hosted are becoming more popular, others less so. I work a full-time job and have a family, so I cannot host all types of events all of the time.

The purpose of this poll is to get your feedback. Let me know, honestly, what level of interest you have in this event. Thank you!


Horse Racing

The current schedule has one or two horse races each month. Each race has a different course. Some allow standard horses, others fast, and a few allow war steeds. I keep track of who participates and wins, assigning points, so that the most active and successful riders are recognized and rewarded at the end of the season.

Pros -
* Judges can volunteer at the last minute.
* Turbine and others occasionally help with prizes, increasing their variety and value.
* Turbine has sponsored massive multi-server event (Galloping Gala).
* Less subject to trolls than certain other events.
* Gives the same thrill as sports competitions.
* Builds toward a major season-ending event.

Cons -
* Requires 2 or more volunteers to run the race.
* Has several rules which must be communicated to the participants.
* Players without level 75+ characters cannot participate in war steed races.
* Some race courses pass mobs, making it difficult for visitors from other servers to participate.
* Is subject to lag.

If Im on during a race or gathering that you have started I can volunteer my time. but Im not on very much anymore and cannot be considered reliable. But my heart is with you!

I love the races! If I can get to a computer when it's on I shall be a judge or race myself if I have the right pony.

I have been to two of the last races to watch and cheer on all of the participants but I am just getting to the point that I have gotten the nerve to actually participate. I would love to race (non-war steed) if there are anymore races.

However, I am willing to hold off on participating in the race if you need me to help out. From what I have seen the the forums (here and LOTRO) as well as first hand in game, these events seem to have become an important aspect of the game for a number of people. It is the "non-corporate", player run events that makes this game and this server special. If I can help you keep it running, even if you choose to run a reduced schedule, I will. Let me know what you need from me.

I think they sound fantastic but alas it is usually timings that prevent my attendance as my RL is very unreliable. As mentioned by others, if around I would be happy to help but realistically this is unlikely to be very often at all.

From what I have read and heard though you do a brilliant job Kira and I hope you successfully find the balance and support to continue however regularly you see fit :)
