Hobbit stories?

I am not familiar with all of Tolkien's work.

I was wondering if there was a book that had other stories about Hobbits (I know The Hobbit but wonder if three were others), or that had some focus in the Shire, etc? I am trying to get some more "feel" and research for writing a background for Rifflo.

As far as I can recall, for Shire research you want the Hobbit (yes, I saw your restriction...), Fellowship, and most particularly Return of the King (for the Scourging and for the appendices).

Thanks for the information. So, after The Return of the King, there isn't much more written on Hobbits?

This might be a long shot, but what about the HoME (History of Middle Earth) books? I've read the first one which seems to be more or less about the beginnings of Middle Earth, the Valar and the Elves. Maybe the others go into how the Hobbits came about?
