Miloin of the White Mountains
Galin, son of Thwalin, fell deeply in love with an exceptionally gifted jewelcrafter named Rís. Rís, daughter of Drorin, son of Dorin, felt mutually enamored of Galin and so they married and created for themselves a very comfortable life in the halls of the White Mountains. Some years later, Galin and Rís were blessed with the birth of their twins, Malin, a son, and Miloin, a daughter. Both children were greatly cherished by their parents, but Miloin was the gem of her parents’ eyes (as female dwarves are such rare creatures). Malin & Miloin did everything together; whatever endeavor one undertook, the other was not far behind. As the years passed, they grew into the best of friends, a friendship of fierce love and healthy competition. While their parents worked diligently on their metalcrafts in the forge, Malin & Miloin tussled about in imaginary battle honing their fighting skills as one day to be formidable warriors. They could always be seen and heard skirmishing throughout the sheltering halls of the Great White Mountains. The two were loved by many for their exuberant and pugnacious personalities. Their company was ever greatly enjoyed in the tavern, as they enthusiastically shared tales of their daily combat. Then, at last, the day came when these two young dwarves were called upon to put their skills to great use and test their mettle as mighty warriors. Dain of the Iron Hills had called upon dwarves from the various mountain holds to gather together and take up arms in a force to defend the Lonely Mountain. The dragon, Smaug, had just been slain and Thorin had reclaimed the great halls as his own and needed a strong defense to allow him to rebuild. Malin and Miloin welcomed the opportunity for such honor and, of course, adventure. Neither of them had ever travelled outside the protective walls of the White Mountain, but both reveled the opportunity to taste adventure, especially if it meant they could use a hammer or axe. Galin and Rís knew of the potential dangers that lay ahead for their beloved children and they begged Miloin to stay within the shelter of the mountain. But Miloin would have none of that; she would not allow Malin to go anywhere, especially not on an adventure as grand as this, without her. And what these young, brave dwarves did not pay any heed to was that whisper of foreboding that lingered somewhere deep within their hearts. For what they thought to be an exciting travelling adventure and guard duty on the wall of the Lonely Mountain quickly turned into the greatest battle of their time: the Battle of Five Armies. The two fought courageously side by side, Malin with his mighty hammer and Miloin with her axe. They brought an end to many a warg and orc before the battle turned sour and they were overrun and surrounded. Back to back they swung and slashed until they both fell and were left for dead in the frenzied din of the battle. Miloin awoke some time later to see Malin lying just a few feet away, unmoving. It looked as though he just slept so she crawled to his side to give what aid she could to him, only to discover it was too late. Malin, her most beloved brother, had fallen and already gone to the halls of waiting to sit among his ancestors.
Upon the closing of Autumn’s curtain,
The dreadful dragon has finally fallen.
Thorin’s reclaimed the Lonely Mountain.
Dwarves raised blades with elves and men;
Against a common foe we must all defend.
