re: APPROVED - App: Finnalee - by Tulenn

The application submitted by Finnalee is as follows:

Quote:
Name : Finnalee
Game : Lord of the Rings Online
Server : Landroval
Level : 112
Gender : Female
Race : Race of Man
Class : Minstrel

Please note: While we do have a presence on other servers, we are primarily a Landroval-based kinship. Our regular weekly events, and our marquee events Weatherstock and Winterstock, are held on the Landroval server.

Have you read & do you agree with LMB charter?:
Yes

Do you understand that Kin chat channel is for LOTRO and Tolkien related chat only?:
Yes

Use this area to share why you want to join LMB.:
Back on Landroval, I was first a recently avowed Minstrel in Bree when it was clean and pretty, before the dark stain of the shadow over the land. I was just tra-la-la-ing my way from Bree to the Shire, upon a long windy path, and a minstrel man invited me to join the Lonely Mountain Band. I was in the Lonely Mountain Band back quite near the start, when LOTRO was young and simple, and one could still bait a hook with a red wiggler worm (I miss the days)! Made up of several Mintrels and more, we would play music in the Prancing Pony and figure out how to perform group music, and enjoy conviviality in the kinhouse (thanks, Galen!). Upon Weathertop the kin played music, fought ferocious black birds, and Galen's idea for Weatherstock was born somewhere around that time.

However, at that time, the kin was based on Galenswerd's time zone in the East, and I was in the West, and I only found out after establishing on Landroval that that server game time is apparently East time, so it was difficult to participate in group activities, since I was usually in traffic driving home. I remember racing home from work one time to join a kin event, and it was already over - I forgot about the 3 hour time difference! And I wasn't levelling up as fast as other kin, so eventually it was difficult to go on quests with the others. Although, I remember Andeon or Xalendir escorting me all the way out of a goblin-infested area so I didn't get overwhelmed - such a gentleman! And, I took many a time-out to husband hunt, attend school, get married, work two jobs, and participate in an the real alternate reality. I was released from the kin (without an email of explanation), once, I suppose for inactivity, perhaps by Galenswerd, or a new Captain, Harperella, who didn't know me well, and then a second time, and so, feeling sad, I never bothered coming back. I always thought kin was kin and friends were friends, like in Tolkien! HOWEVER, with a limit then of 50 (?) in the kin, I suppose it was all due to expediency as I wasn't playing much or at all after I started working full-time again!

Like Frodo, I had to take my own path! Although, where's my Samwise? I play on and off, but try to log in when I can. I am back in school (AGAIN!), and reward myself after homework sometimes by popping on a doing a short quest. However, I have a 30 year VIP account, and I will ALWAYS come back! :) And all my old screenshots on this website disappeared years ago when I was still a member! Maybe due to the website update / change back when. I don't know why. Anyway, here I am!

Player info:

Age Range:
Old Fogey

Tell us about any MMO or RP experience you may have (RP is not required for membership, we are just curious): :
Everquest - still a member - 22 years. But I hardly play anymore, I just check in sometimes. It used to be superfun with my brother and nephew teaming up, but times change. I like that the characters can swim underwater!

Lord of the Rings Online - still a member - 15 years. 15 years go on VIP membership. What will happen then?!
RP - yes, lightly, with humor, as the impulse arises!

I tried WOW once for about five minutes because several of my boy cousins were on there, but some guy kept bugging me to go off with him, like, wanting me to go into the woods, and I could hear him calling another female, so maybe he was hitting on me. Ew. And it was sooooo sloooooow compared to LOTRO. And then it closed. And came back. Eh (just my opinion).

Please tell us what time zone you are in. (i.e. EST): :
Pacific

Character information:

Tell us about your character: :
My name is Finnalee, an homage to my bit o' the Irish and over half of Scottish. Nearly all my alts start with "Finn". I am a Minstrel and Scholar. I like to sing in the Earth life, but only play real instruments a little, so it's nice to play virtually. I especially love folk music, and celtic music, so that we have those playlists in LOTRO is awesome! I pretty much solo all quests since I haven't been in a kin in 12 years (?) since LMB. I tried one other kin, but it seemed full of 15-year olds. Soloing seemed to work best with my busy life. I've earned my levels through time by sheer hard work, old school, except for about 2-3. I have a level up package waiting, but I just want to take my main alt up the old-fashioned way. I'll use the level-ups on my other alts. I usually level up the Warrior Skald, since I solo. I wish they'd make more Minstrel quests.

I earned the title Fisher-Queen this last year. I'm trying to avoid capping out my fishing at 200, but it's inevitable at some point. I hope they raise the fishing cap (although I haven't checked for a bit). Attempting to fish pretty much everywhere to earn all the titles. I hope I WILL catch a 50-pound Salmon soon! I once caught a lute! (game glitch? Photo forthcoming). I enjoy discovering odd fishing places. There is one very special puddle with a bucket. Do you know where? :) I'm working toward earning a special quest-given fishing rod!

Please tell us of any previous/current kinships you have character(s) in LOTRO. :
LMB - past

LMB experience:

Were you referred by a current member? Who?: :
N/A.

Have you ever been to LMB hosted event? If yes, what were your impressions? If no, are you planning on it in the next week? (Highly recommended!):
Yes. When I can catch them. Yes, I plan to attend them.

Gameplay preferences:

What activities do you enjoy most in LOTRO? :
Questing, RP sometimes, socializing with kin.

Kinship expectations:

What are your expectations from LMB as a member? :
Socializing again with kin. I've been soloing for a long time. My real-life brother is on LOTRO Landroval (he bought me my subscription so I could play online with him from 400 miles away), but he solos also.

What do you think your strongest contribution to LMB would be? :
Poems in rhyme on the spur of a moment (always cheered at!), Tolkien discussions, good humor, music participation, active quest analysis (such as "We need to back off from the area and let it reset!" to eliminate some pesky giants, etc.). Amusing screenshots (floating cabbages, anyone?). Helping out other kin!

Tolkien:

Have you read the books or seen the movies? What are your favourite scenes or images? :
Read The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings books, and working on some of the others. I like reading letters between J. R. R. Tolkien and his son Christopher. That was sad that we lost him recently. Favorite scenes or images? Pretty much everything. The 9 singing at Bilbo's house was pretty amazing. Turning the ogres to stone is awesome!

Misc:

Is there anything else not covered in this application that you'd like to share with us? :
Goodness, that was a lot of questions! Back when I joined LMB in the game in 2008 or whatever, it was okay, I'll add you, okay, you're in! LOL

Thank you, Tulenn! Will do!

Hello to Galenhir, Andeon (if he's still around, doesn't look like it), Rocknose (don't see him on the roster), Nak (don't see him on here), Xalendir (don't see him on the roster), and any other kin I quested with in 2008 - 2000whenever! Anyone know what happened to them? I've been around playing the whole time, just with lots of gaps! :)
