re: Cary's family recipes

Hi All! I took photos of mom's recipe book a while back, and am planning to take photos of my own handwritten ones too. Here's a link to the album in Google photos!

Of what's up so far I highly recommend cherry cake, cheese crackers, and little nuts. All super yum!

Enjoy :) I'll add more as I get mine digitized.

re: Cary's family recipes

As you can see the cookbooks are well loved with stains on the pages. The first set of them with the kind of tan background and no lines are from my mom's book which is actually the 2nd iteration, she had to rewrite them all when the first book totally fell apart lol the ones with the lines are mine and I started my book when I was in my teens... it has a Star Trek DS9 cover lol.

I just wanted to share them because some folks might enjoy, and to kind of keep the recipes going. :)

re: Cary's family recipes

Bump because yum, recipes!

Also because I remembered a gluten free flour blend I use when baking for a friend who can't gluten or wheat. It works well for cookies and pie crust and biscuits, things I made so far with it. Have not tried it for bread but the book I got it from mentions it's possible with the addition of about 1/2 tsp of xanthan gum to the recipe you are making. Xanthan gum makes some folks feel bloated though so... depends on your preference and needs I guess :)

Gluten-free Flour Blend

1 cup white rice flour
1 cup brown rice flour (original recipe calls for sorghum flour)
1 cup tapioca flour
1 cup cornstarch
1 cup coconut flour (or almond flour, I used coconut)

re: Cary's family recipes

These bring back memories! Especially rhubarb crisp. Alas, I refrain as much as I can from baking things that are high carb. My metabolism isn't young any more. Now when I want a snack I've been reduced to making things like black bean brownies sad crying
While they're tasty, they just aren't quite the same.

I have had these before and they are very chocolatey goodness but yah... not quite the same. With crumbles you can omit a fair bit of the sugar if you don't mind it being a little more tart from the fruit, which is not too bad :)
