I'm new to LOTR online and to MMO roleplay as a whole really, this place seems really friendly, active and well put together!

Player info:

Age Range:
22+

Tell us about any MMO or RP experience you may have: :
I played Runescape when I was younger and dabbled with WoW, Champions Online and SWTOR but never got too far into them so I'm still really quite an MMO 'noob' (do kids these days still say that?!)

Please tell us what time zone you are in. (i.e. EST): :
UTC (England)

Character information:

Tell us about your character: :
TLDR: So I'm actually roleplaying as a raven called Orarc who is being escorted across middle-earth by a guard from Rohan named Uldgar. Orarc is distant kin to Roac and can speak the Westron tongue. It's a bit of an oddball concept I know but I'm having fun with it so far.

Game Bio:
Orarc son of Prruk is chief of the great ravens that dwell in Fangorn Forest, descendants of those who fled Ravenhill with the dwarves after the desolation of Smaug. He is one of the few left of his kind who still speak the Westron tongue and at 123 years is reckoned to be wise among ravens.

Orarc is escorted by a young Rohirrim guardsman named Uldgar, assigned to protect the raven. Orarc is travelling Middle-Earth in search of the meaning to the Crebain threat who have driven his flock out of their home of Fangorn and now foray into the west

Orarc is a large gnarled bird with ruffled, tattered feathers and a proud yet crooked set to him. He speaks with a harsh voice and enjoys riddles and baubles. Uldgar is a young flaxen haired Rohirrim of 21 years, typically wearing a stern, sour expression.

Overly long full bio that quickly got out of hand:

In the time when Thrór ruled as King Under The Mountain, there existed great friendship between the Dwarves of Erebor and the ravens who dwelt on the nearby Ravenhill under the leadership of Carc their chief.

The great-ravens were long-lived with equally long memories; some even capable of speaking the Westron tongue and they passed their wisdom on down to their children. Ravens acted as messengers and spies for the dwarves, bringing secret news and were rewarded with such bright things as their kind coveted for their dwellings and which the dwarves had in great supply.

This co-existence came to an end in T.A. 2770 with the coming of the dragon Smaug. The Dwarvern king was ousted from the lonely mountain and the kingdom of Dale put to ruin.

Most ravens remained with Carc in Erebor and lived on there without the dwarf’s patronage. But others left Ravenhill with Carc’s brother, Kraa. Kraa followed the dwarves south where they settled the hills of Dunland.

Dunland was not near plentiful as Erebor though and the dwarves struggled to scratch out a living in the harsher land. After the death of King Thror and the dwarvern war against the Orcs that followed, Thrain’s people did not return to Dunland but scattered across Middle-Earth. Kraa and his followers decided to retreat into the nearby forest of Fangorn.

The great ravens settled well into their new home, befriending the Ents that tended the forest and watching over the men of Rohan. In T.A. 2850 Kraa died of age and his son Prruk followed him as chief; his son Orarc then succeeded him in T.A. 2939.

Orarc was seen as a wise leader, yet proud. Known for his inquisitiveness and love of baubles and riddles. Not long into his leadership Orarc learned of the events of the death of Smaug and led his people north where they aided his cousin Roac gathering information for the new King Under The Mountain and trying to bring about truce before the Battle Of The Five Armies.

After the vanquishing of the goblin army a peace came over the north. Orarc and his people were rewarded with many fine shiny objects and the great ravens of Fangorn were also offered to return and live once more at Ravenhill under the lonely mountain. Though tempted by this Orarc was eager to rule his own people, not to be sub-serviant to his northern cousins. He had also sensed a shadow growing in the south and deemed it wise that his people should remain and keep a watch there.

Orarc’s people enjoyed more than 70 years of peace but his unease grew over the years, the ravens had begun to diminish and slowly became wilder. Less and less of them remembered the speech of men and many of their lifespans began to grow shorter. Orcs were sighted on the edges of the forest and there was unrest with the Dunlendings but it seemed as if some force prevented him from seeing the cause of it.

In the end the real threat to the great ravens came from within the forest itself. Their numbers stretched thin and focus upon the world outside, Orarc and his people were taken at unawares by the crow-like Crebain.

The cruel birds massed in great numbers from southern Fangorn and the hills of Dunland, striking swiftly against the outnumbered great ravens. Though larger and more intelligent than their assailants Orarc’s people were soon overwhelmed and he was forced to lead them out of the forest and took sanctuary at Nîn-in-Eilph among the swan marshes.

His home lost, his people slaughtered and scattered; Orarc was faced with humility and difficult decisions. The Crebain, now having freedom of the skies regularly forayed out further west; but the ravens knew not what they were seeking. Resolving the find their motives and to aid for the ravens to aid the free peoples against the threat of Mordor, Orarc made the dangerous flight to Edoras in search of aid.

Upon reaching the capital though he was saddened though to find word of Theoden’s ill health proved worse than he’d feared and was unable even to gain an audience with the king. The court of Edoras did eventually provided him with an escort in the form of the young Uldgar to see him safely though his travels into west before sending the chief raven on his way.

Please tell us of any previous/current kinships you have character(s) in LOTRO. :
N/A

LMB experience:

Were you referred by a current member? Who?: :
N/A

Have you ever been to LMB hosted event? If yes, what were your impressions? If no, are you planning on it in the next week? (Highly recommended!):
No, but hoping to come along to the Ale And Tales tonight.

Gameplay preferences:

What activities do you enjoy most in LOTRO? :
I'm still quite new and still struck by just wandering through middle-earth.

Kinship expectations:

What are your expectations from LMB as a member? :
I'm not looking to lead or climb the ranks at any point, just want to make like-minded friends and enjoy some roleplay.

What do you think your strongest contribution to LMB would be? :
I like to think I have a fresh way of looking at things that might give something unique to the rolplay and the kinship as a whole. I dunno, tough question.

Tolkien:

Have you read the books or seen the movies? What are your favorite scenes or images? :
Probably a hangable offence but I actually prefer the films to the books, think the last march of the Ents will always give me goosebumps. However! I do feel the books and the lore as a whole, have this sort of, for lack of a better word, 'world-feel' that I have never seen anywhere else and can't pinpoint what gives it that.

Misc:

Is there anything else not covered in this application that you'd like to share with us? :
I'm writing this from The Eagle And Child, not at all relevant but I had to tell someone hahaha
