re: Upcoming Equestrian Events

With the Spring Racing Carnival behind us, there are currently no events on the Windy Acres schedule. This thread is for chatting about ideas for upcoming events.

Please limit your ideas to small events, or larger events that could be scheduled in AUGUST or later. Many of us will be busy planning and working on Weatherstock between now and then.

I would love to know how many people are interested in these events, especially if you are willing to volunteer as a helper. It wouldn't hurt to get these on the public LOTRO calendar soon, so that we don't accidentally overlap someone else's event on Landroval.

Here are some ideas...

* Freedom Ride (Friday, July 3) -- A celebration of the Free Peoples and their stand against the growing darkness. A mounted parade from Bree-town to Windy Acres Ranch, followed by a horse show (mounted fashion contest), fun run, concert and fireworks display.

* Solve-A-Mystery Contest (Saturday, October 24) -- It has become a tradition to host an Autumn-themed mystery roleplay event around Halloween. I would love to continue this tradition. For those new to solve-a-mystery, this is similar to murder mystery dinner parties. Six actors take on roles of the suspects, witnesses, and chief investigator. Any number of participants can join as investigators, interviewing and roleplaying with the actors to gain clues. The participants submit one guess to the host as to who commit the crime and why (or how, depending on the story). The first people to correctly deduce the answer win prizes.

* Turkey Chase Horse Race (Saturday, November 21) -- We have had several requests for eXtreme horse races, such as a goat race in Moria or a particularly difficult cross-country war steed race. The Turkey Chase usually has the theme of gathering food-stuffs for Thanksgiving faster than other riders. If we want, we could actually make this a sort of relay race, gathering actual food items from hobbits waiting at each destination.

* Theater Night (Suggestions?) -- Windy Acres could put on a play (or a series of small comedy acts). Last time, we had music and set changes between acts. It turned out really well. We could try to write a play, LotR-ize a play, or perform pre-written material. Thanks to Byrcha for the idea.

* Parade of Lights (Saturday, December 12) -- We could have a walking parade from Bree-town to Windy Acres ranch, starting at in-game sundown, where everyone carries a Lantern, Sparkler, or other glowing item. At the ranch, we could have a holiday party with a trivia contest, winter-themed fashion contest, storytelling, and holiday concert.

Which of these interest you? What ideas do you have for fun events?

re: Upcoming Equestrian Events

I always enjoy the Solve-a-mystery events. Also, the plays that we put on last winter were a lot of fun (well, Brax enjoyed her role anyway).

The Parade of Lights sounds like fun too!

Hi! :)

All of them seem great, but especially the Solve-A-Mystery event is so very much fun, and the Parade of Lights sounds so lovely and just perfect for that time of year! =D

re: Upcoming Equestrian Events

All of the suggestions so far sound very interesting and fun. I would love to watch the extreme war steed race since I don't have a war steed yet.

I've never participated in a murder mystery dinner but they've always looked like they would be a lot of fun. Putting on a play (or even watching one) would be fun especially with a LOTR theme. The regular parade on horseback would be fun with a huge group and so would walking with the lights and lanterns. I will have to look into what's in my closet for a costume contest (I hope not before the Haunted Barrow festival tho--I need a mask!)

You all come up with such fun ideas and things to do. I am having a lot of fun being a part of LMB and Windy Acres Ranch.

All these ideas are great :D I'd be happy to volunteer at any of them. I especially like the idea of the Parade of Lights, that would be so magical.

Iorithiel - I think I've got a spare raven mask and cloak lying around, probably on Qiredis. Drop her a line ingame and I'll mail them to you?

Kira: All those sound like fun! I don't think I can make the mystery this year (family plans, etc) but I'll try to show for the rest :)

Really great ideas! They all sound very fun! =D
I love parades and plays!

Oh and if there's a tiny tiny role in the Solve-A-Mystery I might be able to help with that? I got a bit of practice last time :)

re: Upcoming Equestrian Events

It looks like a Halloween solve-a-mystery contest and a Parade of Lights are the most popular options.

I would love to hear your ideas for both of these events.

What would make a good story for the October contest?
Basically, we wrap up a zebra puzzle with a good roleplay theme.
Six actors give out clues, which contestants can use to solve the mystery.

So far we have had...
* Mrs. Pott's Missing Pastries (or the Perturbing Paradox of the Purloined Pecan Pies)
* Mr. Umbridge's Harrowing Hoax (or the Tantalizing Tale of Terrible Trepidation by Trickery of Two Trolls)
* Secret of the Cold Spirits (or the Compelling Case of the Corrupt Counselor's Craven Kidnapping)
* The Ruthless Rogue's Ruby Robbery (or the Mysterious Conundrum of the Missing Corundum)

Hopefully you enjoyed the witty (silly) titles! :)

If your idea makes use of existing furniture items, that is a real bonus. This would allow us to have visible clues for everyone to roleplay with. (For example, we used Troll the First and Troll the Second for the Harrowing Hoax.)

For the parade of lights, what details will make it really magical?

* Perhaps we can get a whole host of volunteers to wear all white and carry a lantern, forming an escort for the walk from Bree-town to Windy Acres Ranch. If we start outside Bree's west gate and walk through the town, people will probably be very interested.
* We could ask all the participants to bring sparklers and lanterns of their own. Aren't there some class abilities that make the hands glow? (Which are they?)
* I have some spare sparklers we could give away as prizes, as well as some shrews.
* We could put white, winter-themed decorations at the ranch. What items might look best?

re: Upcoming Equestrian Events

I think it's a minstrel "stance" (I can't remember the actual term) that makes the hands glow.

I have some snow-covered trees sitting around somewhere that would look nice and white-themed.

Yes, it is the Minstrel's Dissonance Stance that makes the hands glow. Aren't there statues that are chalky white looking? But those could be interior decorations rather than outside. Actually most of the outdoor statues look white anyway and of course there are the snowmen from Yule Tide. I haven't been able to do any of the larger fellowship or raid instances where you can get a chance at the large and enormous outdoor decorations so I don't know what they are to give any suggestions. How would bon fires look? I'm going to have to get the snow wizard emote for this! lol

Love the parade in white idea. The minstrel Dissonance stance is gown- do the LM have something sparkly as well?
The Rivendell store steed also has a lantern that leaves a trail if I am remembering right.

Yes, the Rivendell Steed trails a beam of light from its lantern. I think the Michel Delving steed does also.

re: Upcoming Equestrian Events

Parade of Lights sounds like such fun, as do all of the other events! One of my favorite past events, that is not mentioned here, is the Storyteller's Festival! I really enjoyed travelling the neighborhood to listen to everyone's story and songs, it was a magical evening. Is that off the agenda for this year?

re: Upcoming Equestrian Events

It's not off of the agenda, though we might want to combine it with another event.
What if the Parade of Lights went past several houses on the way to the ranch, where storytellers and musicians were waiting?
Sort of reverse-wasailing...
