re: Ales and Tales Scheduling

Someone asked me about this so I thought I'd post...

I noticed that some posts lists Ales and Tales starting at 9:30pm and others at 10:30pm.
The Facebook page says 10:30pm.

I'm guessing it's still 9:30pm?

Is A&T Extreme still going on?

If you have control of a Twitter/Facebook/post/etc. please make sure you're listing the correct time, thanks!

re: Ales and Tales Scheduling

Ales & Tales has been at 9:30 pm (with Nibbles & Nobs, i.e. open-stage, at 8:30) for at least a year, maybe two years now. There hasn't been an ATX in maybe two years either. I don't know who controls those info sources you mentioned.

There is always some level of interest in rebooting ATX. I would love to utilize more venues beyond the low-level areas. But what night could we hold it that doesn't already have another event? We could just take A&T further afield instead.

re: Ales and Tales Scheduling

I post on the ALes & Tales Facebook page, which auto tweets to the Twitter feed (I do not have the login info for this), and always state the correct time. Not sure where else it is being posted as the wrong time?

Okay, I went and looked at the A&T FB page again and it was setup with the old start time of 10:30 (I didn't create the page, I'm just updating it now) SO I'll get that changed to the correct time.

re: Ales and Tales Scheduling

On one hand it would be great to be able to have A&T in beautiful far off locations, but on the other hand that would mean that low leveled players who are looking forward to visit A&T might be sad to find that they can't reach the area.

Maybe A&T Extreme could be something that happens once a month or once every other month and if possible not on normal A&T time? If it's that rare, maybe lots of people will gather for when it happens while still not leave low leveled people without their A&T fun! :)

Just keep away from Lothlorien until I get there! /beg lol

ATX was a monthly event, usually Friday nights if I recall correctly. We visited the higher level zones for a change of pace from the normal A&T locations.

Originally I intended Sonca to be a low level character that would stay in the shire and only make occasional visits to Bree. Then I found out about ATX and leveled her up quickly so I could go to them. I would love to see this start up again.

ATX was one of Lennidhren's brilliant brainchildren, of which there were many. It would be nice to start it up again. Maybe a separate crew so the regular A&T crew doesn't get overwhelmed. Now that I'm level 85, I could help out with a revival of ATX.

Cheers,

re: Ales and Tales Scheduling

If you pick ATX sites near campfires, us hunters can port any number of people to the site. We could pick people up at the West Bree gate and have a group leaving every 5 minutes or so starting at 15 minutes prior to the show. Just my two copper's worth.

The page is out of date here as well:

This appears to be owned by RannaDylin. Lennidhren, could you update the links?
It would be nice to point people to the Facebook and Twitter feeds, etc.

re: Ales and Tales Scheduling

After discussing the whether-tos and why-fors at A&T this week, it seems best to implement "Ales & Tales Extreme" on Mondays so that we don't preempt anyone else's event. We already have a sizable audience on Mondays, many of whom can travel anywhere in Middle Earth. However, to accomodate the low-level folks, let's try to get volunteers to port/summon/escort folks between 8:30-9:30. We'll try this once a month, starting this week with an easy one: Lake Evendim -- the swim is safe, but some folks might need help getting to Tinnudir. We'll go progressively further afield after that (Eregion, Lothlorien, Enedwaith). Hopefully there aren't barriers to summoning/porting to certain places, but let's try to experiment with that in advance.

Also, mark yer calendars: the fifth anniversary of Ales & Tales is Monday August 18th!

re: Ales and Tales Scheduling

The first unannounced ATX was a success last night (despite some server/zone weirdness) -- we had a large crowd, enough acts, and it wasn't a huge logistical challenge to get people to the far side of Lake Evendim. (Actually, we've been to Tinnudir as recently as a month ago, and to the Blue Lady's Grotto 1.5 years ago, all for "regular" A&T with no logistical/travel support). There were half a dozen folks who were on-level or lower.

I don't know all the issues with porting people to higher-level areas, but the pattern seems to be that each region is progressively harder to get folks to than the previous ones. So, perhaps we should follow the course of the game? We could go to Rivendell in July, then to Eregion (Gwingris) in August, then on to Moria, then to Lothlorien (vinyard?), then to Dunland (Galtrev), Great River (Stangard), and finally Rohan. Once in Rohan we'll have many sites to choose from (Snowbourne, Edoras, just about any mead hall). That will take us into next year, then it is off to Gondor! If we stay in the big hub towns we should be safe from mobs, close to stables and campfires, etc. If we set up a schedule, at least knowing which location is next (even if not exact date), folks can plan ahead and we can provide details/reminders/suggestions for the next one (e.g. Moria and Lothlorien are gated).

I'm too much of a newbie to remember the old days of Ales & Tales Extreme, but I loved attending A&T at a more distant, exotic location last night. It was a breath of fresh air. I do understand needing to be accommodating of lower level folks, but when concerts, RP events, etc. all happen in same old places every single time, it can get a bit... well... same old, same old.

I can't wait to attend an A&T someday in Enedwaith!

re: Ales and Tales Scheduling

On one hand it's great to be able to have A&T in other areas instead of just the same ones every week for months and months, but on the other hand... sooner or later I'll be left behind XD I won't speed level and skip stuff to keep up because that would ruin the whole game for me (I'm playing LOTRO like if it's a book I'm reading), so I'll just go to those I can reach because sooner or later you'll have to revisit the new regions again, and then I might have reached that far and can join in :D

I think it would be better if A&T Extreme could be more random though, because if we follow a path that goes further and further ahead, more and more people will get one less A&T every month for quite a while before we go back to lower regions, so maybe jumping between Rohan and medium leveled areas every other ATX would make it feel less often us lower leveled people get left out? :)

There's a lot of level limits to porting and summoning too. I know that hunters can port newly made characters to Rivendell, but I don't remember my earlier experiments so sadly I have no list of level limits ^^;
