re: Ales and Tales 3/22/10 (Breeland Fairgrounds)

This week's Ales and Tales was held at the Breeland Fairgrounds. We had a banner turnout with the following characters in attendance:

Aeleridas, Alditha, Algrogo, Andlander, Araduna, Aralinne, Astleigh, Bradwell, Corriandra, Delayne, Diamiond, Dovie, Elanorael, Erikr, Finhl, Fionnula, Grayhawke, Gweoddyn, Harperella, Heatherleaf, Icemn, Idonia, Javelarry, Jhak, Kadren, Kestryl, Lightning the Turtle, Lumesia, Lumesia, Lyonardo, Meribuc, Northwoods, Omsi, Paislea, Pintsize, Ramblis, Reddhawk, Rohanwood, Stookum, Syrna, Taterbug, Teriacar, Tinki, Tiriacar, Valaraein, Willyam, and Witred.

There was a bit of confusion at the beginning of the event. We were to meet at the center of the hedge maze, but it turns out that there is more than one center to the hedge maze--possibly more than one hedge maze! Its enough to make L-space look sane. Finally, we all reconvened at the entrance of the maze, where Rohanwood was keeping the crowd entertained.

But this locale was not nearly grand enough for Ales and Tales, and we soon reconvened to the main fairgrounds. The festival was still being prepared by a good many laborers, but they all put their duties aside for an hour of merriment and song as we began our event. Finhl started things off by reciting a bone-chilling tale of the Old Forest. His tale was met not with applause, but weeping and crying from the crowd.

Harperella played her tune "Hearken to the Swan Ships of Aqualonde." This tune will be appearing in the Lonely Mount Band project--an album of Tolkienn themed tunes put together by members of Fathom (A RL celt-rock band) and the Lonely Mountain Band (the kin behind Ales and Tales). You can hear the RL harp version here: http://lonelymountainband.guildlaunch.com/index.php?sub_domain=lonelymountainband&sub_domain=lonelymountainband&gid=

Next up, Alditha baffled us with some truly confounding riddles. Many entertaining, yet incorrect, answers were voiced by the crowd before finally stumbling across the true solutions. Our weekly Ales and Tales band, led by Keptwise kept our toes tapping with some lively tunes. Astleigh, Diamiond, Dovie, Heatherleaf, Rohanwood, and Witred were in fine form as we all gathered for some great dancing. There were a couple circle dances, some partner dances, and some free-for-all mosh pit dances. Willyam shared a couple of tunes on the bagpipes that did not drive us away screaming. A grand success for this instrument of war!

Thanks to everyone who came and made this event another success! Next week we will be meeting in Duillond. Take this opportunity to learn /dance_elf and /dance_elf2 so you can participate in some circle dances. See you all in Ered Luin!
