Ok here is a revision... changed Avan's mother... couldn't let it be a major character from the family trees.. if I kept it as Eldote I found out that would make Avangrod Gil-Galath's uncle... no good... so here is another revision.

Avangrod was born into the House of the Golden Flower in Gondolin in 468FA (First Age) the result of an affair between an elven lord named Tinorian , and a refugee named Isilvire. When the war against Morgoth was going poorly, and many Noldorion cities were falling to the Dark Lord, Gondolin was a hidden bastion removed from the world, to hide the Noldor from the evils beyond their realm.
After the razing of the highlands of Dorthonian, and Angrod slain, his people were scattered and broken. Isilvire, the sister of Angrod’s chief captain, was lost for many weeks in her flight. In search of Gondolin she was found wandering the Echoriath mountains by Glorfindel, and was taken into the House of the Golden Flower. Glorfindel's cousin Tinorian became enamoured with her and in secret they conceived a child. In honour of her lost liege she named the child Avangrod. No one in Gondolin knew who the father was, and for many years this is how it remained.
“I remember some of my best days in Gondolin playing with the other children, there was joy and hope then, but also a subtle undertone of fear and war. When the kingdom of Nargathrond was besieged, people began to leave to cross the great Westron Sea to return to Eldamar to the city of Tirion on Tuna. It was on the great ship, looking out over the wide sea at what we had left behind, that my mother told me the truth about my true father Tinorian, but that it was something I should keep in my heart till the time came when I would cross the sea to meet him again.
It is in Tirion I spent my years and grew well into maturity, playing music and learning new things. Then strangely one day, I awoke in a new land, amongst strange elves in a place called Lothlorien. They look at me strangely not for being anew here, but for my archaic speech and for asking of elves they had mostly never heard about. They say, ‘Why you are not in mythical Valinor but in Middle Earth, and Gondolin and even Beleriand of Old has been lost in the ages long ago beneath the sea to the West.’
This I cannot believe, and so I travel west in search of Lost Gondolin and my father Tinorian though that second is not a name I dare mention. One day I will return to Tirion, but something catches my curiosity: why are the elves of Middle Earth retreating back across the sea to Eldamar? This is something I must discover as well. Perhaps when I find out, I will join them.

Yeah I didn't realize Glorfindel was an NPC in game, so I think I will change from him to someone else to be the Avangrod's real father... Any suggestions? Also this new Noldorian father from Gondolin shouldn't be married, so in effect he is not doing anything immoral even though they keep their relationship secret...
On another note, I don't think Glorfindel was ever married either so that is a mistake as well.

Avangrod was born into the House of the Golden Flower in Gondolin in 468FA the result of an affair between an elven lord named Tinorian and the widow of the Noldorion lord Angrod of Dorthonion. Her name was Eldalote. When the war against Morgoth was going poorly, and many Noldorion cities were falling to the Dark Lord, Gondolin was a hidden bastion removed from the world, to hide the Noldor from the evils beyond their realm.
After the death of Angrod, Eldalote retreated to Gondolin and was taken in by Glorfindel into the House of the Golden Flower. Glorfindel's cousin Tinorian became enamoured with Eldote and in secret they conceived a child. In honour of her lost husband she named the child Avangrod. No one in Gondolin knew who the father was, and for many years this is how it remained.
“I remember some of my best days in Gondolin playing with the other children, there was joy and hope then, but also a subtle undertone of fear and war. When the kingdom of Nargathrond and my half-brother Orodreth were besieged, people began to leave to cross the great Westron Sea to return to Eldamar to the city of Tirion on Tuna (also known by some as Kor).
They look at me strangely not for being a new here, but for my archaic speech and for asking of elves they had mostly never heard about, and of the ones they did, they held back about with hidden secrets behind their eyes. They say, ‘Why you are not in mythical Valinor but in Middle Earth, and Gondolin and even Beleriand of Old has been lost in the ages long ago beneath the sea to the West.’

Although rare, there are many elves not mentioned in Tolkien's works, so I don't see why having Eldote saved from her grief by another lover couldn't work, do you? Otherwise she may have wasted away from grief at the loss of Angrod and her son Orodreth.

Avangrod, this is simply FYI, as I will not cast judgment on anyone's biography or creativity! Tolkien wrote the Elves such that adultery is completely unthinkable. Those that bonded, did so for life. There was only one documented exception of an Elf remarrying after his wife died, Finwë, and that had far-reaching consequences. Glorfindel was an exceptionally moral Elf, making the situation even more unlikely.

Again, this is just Tolkien lore information.

Well now it's going to be awkward visiting Rivendell...
He doesn't know you hang out with BBB, does he? envy

My opinion is that perhaps being a direct descendant or a kin once removed would work better than being the actual son of an existing in-lore NPC, especially since Glorfindel is involved in quite a number of quests and may cause a bit of lore conflict.

PostPosted: 2017/04/19 5:24 pm    Post subject: Avangrod Biography

Here is my character biography. I also posted it under my character Avangrod on the Kinship Roster. It could have been longer but I wanted it to fit into my in game biography page. I still may add to it.

Let me know if it is a little over the top using characters from Tolkien's First Age literature to use as my parents. Glorfindel can be found as an NPC in Rivendell. I am considering changing some of the names if it is too much to use Tolkien's actual characters for my lineage.

As far as Avangrod's memory, I think perhaps he may be under some spell:

Avangrod was born into the House of the Golden Flower in Gondolin in 468FA the result of an affair between of Glorfindel and the widow of the Noldorion lord Angrod of Dorthonion.
Unbeknownst to his wife, he had a secret affair with Eldalote and they conceived a child. In honour of her lost husband she named the child Avangrod. No one in Gondolin knew who the father was, and for many years this is how it remained.
“I remember some of my best days in Gondolin playing with the other children, there was joy and hope then, but also a subtle undertone of fear and war. PostPosted: 2017/04/05 6:16 pm    Post subject: App: Lost Carcosa

The application submitted by Lost Carcosa is as follows:

Quote:
Name : Avangrod
Game : Lord of the Rings Online
Server : Landroval
Level : 10
Gender : Male
Race : Elf
Class : Champion

Have you read & do you agree with LMB charter?:
Yes

Do you understand that Kin chat channel is for LOTRO and Tolkien related chat only?:
Yes

Use this area to share why you want to join LMB.:
I am new to LOTRO and have been a lifelong fan of Tolkien. I joined the Landroval server because I like to roleplay and learned that this might be the best server for that. I am looking for a kinship to get more involved with the community in the game and to meet some people to socialize and roleplay with in game, and maybe form some friendships. Someone in world chat in game recommended the Lonely Mountain Band as a good roleplaying kinship to join.

Player info:

Age Range:
22+

Tell us about any MMO or RP experience you may have: :
I have been playing roleplaying games my entire life, starting with pen and paper games back in the early 1980's. I have been a gamemaster for a couple dozen games and have run events at local game conventions. Some of my favorite RPGs are Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu, Runequest, Traveller. I have owned and played MERP (Middle Earth Roleplaying), and still have many of the books. I really enjoy getting into character and having a conversation or telling a store, and I have learned to have fun with this in MMOs as well.
I played the original Everquest for several years and started about the time Ruins of Kunark came out. I was part of several different guilds and I have some good rp memories from that, particularly a massive wedding in Lavastorm with dozens of people involved.
I have played Dark Age of Camelot and City of Heroes in the past as well as a few other MMOs that I don't remember the names of, and I am currently playing Star Trek Online and have recently been part of 2 different roleplaying groups as well as general roleplay in the world at large. In all the games I have played I have served as a guild officer and understand some of the responsibilities that come with that. I have also run a couple of websites, and currently have one for my fleet in Star Trek online.

Please tell us what time zone you are in. (i.e. EST): :
EST NY

Character information:

Tell us about your character: :
Being new to the game, I have been thinking about my character's biography which is subject to change depending on how it fits in in the LOTRO roleplaying community in general. My idea is that he is a ancient Noldorion elf of the Vanyar line that has come to Middle Earth across the sea from Valinor to learn why elves are traveling back to the west to their ancient roots after all this time. However (somewhat conveniently until I get my bearings in the community) Avangrod is suffering from a form of amnesia as he learns his way in the world.

Please tell us of any previous/current kinships you have character(s) in LOTRO. :
none

LMB experience:

Have you ever been to LMB hosted event? If yes, what were your impressions? If no, are you planning on it in the next week? (Highly recommended!):
I have never been to a player run event in this game yet, but would like to attend.

Gameplay preferences:

What activities do you enjoy most in LOTRO? :
soloing, socializing, probably roleplaying, grouping etc

Kinship expectations:

What are your expectations from LMB as a member? :
I am hoping to meet some new people to socialize with and roleplay with. Hopefully it will be a great way to find a group and maybe eventually participate in a couple raids as well. I look forward to kinship events.

What do you think your strongest contribution to LMB would be? :
Bring some knowledge of Tolkien's lore and getting involved with roleplaying. Perhaps someday working as an officer could be a possibility.

Tolkien:

Have you read the books or seen the movies? What are your favorite scenes or images? :
It has been a while since I read my Tolkien. I am currently reading the Book of Lost Tales I, but have read the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit, maybe 6 or 7 times each. I tried the Silmarillion several times, but only finally got completely through it a few years ago. One of my favorites after the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings was the Children of Hurin and I really enjoyed how the story described the hidden elven city that no one could find, and the tragedy of Turin marrying his sister and taking his life and the battle with the dragon (which was just as good as, but completely different from the encounter with Smaug). One of the things that is so spellbinding about Tolkiens work is the large amount of history hidden in the depths of his stories. Walking past ancient cities and going through the Mines of Moria. I fell the game has captured the architecture and feel of the world pretty well so far.

Misc:

Is there anything else not covered in this application that you'd like to share with us? :
I'm a 43 year old gamer looking for a mature kinship to get involved with. I have purchased the quad expansion pack and am currently a VIP player, and I plan to play this game as long as it keeps going strong. I hope you will take a fresh player such as myself, just new to the game, into consideration.
Thanks for your time.
